It's never too late to begin again

October 29, 20242 min read

Here is an inspirational story for some...

Recently there has been 2 folks over 50 years old begin again at our gym.

They both reported some similar things...

Neither has worked out regularly in 8+ years.

Neither felt committed to the process of working out and both lacked motivation to do it on their own.

One works 7 days a week to make ends meet.

One showed up one day and walked right in the gym and said they wanted to sign up.

I want to bring some context here to what this takes and tell a story of what could be... without sharing too much of their personal lives.

Imagine the one who works 7 days a week. She also reported lacking finances (hence the 7 days a week and two jobs to get there) and has faced quite the challenging past 8 months that got this person to a spot to decide to create change.

The other, 63 years of age, simply showed up out of the blue without seeing our gym, meeting us, or knowing what we do... and decided they wanted to sign up after seeing things for about 1 minute.

THIS IS NOT SOMETHING WE DID. IT IS SOMETHING THEY DECIDED.

Now of course, we have an entire process set up to bring in new people. We want to make sure we are a good fit.

We have a bit of a rite of passage set up.

We market.

We are active on social media.

We aren't the $20/month membership where someone signs up and never attends. (More on this in previous blog posts!)

AND... these two people, with the many potential excuses we hear from many people who decide to never opt in... OPTED IN ON THEIR OWN.

We can imagine the odds stacked against us. In that position we will find every possible reason NOT to do the thing. If you go on the hunt for why not to do something and if you live your life from that place, you will in fact create a solid list that is hard to argue against... and you probably won't do the thing.

So... what separates these two and those who don't do the thing?

You decide.

Our advice... DO THE THING. It is one step away from where you are now.

See ya out there.

Daniel Weaver

Born in Texas, Daniel began his Strength & Conditioning journey in high school where he found more joy in the actual training for sport than the sport itself. While pursuing a Sport & Exercise Science in college, he was blessed to become an intern at a local Strength & Conditioning gym that was also a CrossFit gym. It was there under the guidance of his first Mentor he began his coaching journey. This eventually led to taking over ownership of CrossFit Bothell in Bothell, WA in Jan of 2020. After 4 years of learning and growth, he is excited to start a brand new gym community in Bellingham, WA. Daniel believes in what a gym can do for humans. How it can become a place to receive coaching and feedback, to be vulnerable and struggle with others. He believes it's a place to learn, grow, and adapt in many more ways than simply improving ones body. He believes in a holistic approach to fitness.
