There Is No Starting or Stopping, Only Doing.

"There is no starting or stopping, only doing"

fitness, gym, community, bellingham, coaching

How often have you thought to yourself, "I am going to start doing .. (insert thing you are going to start doing)"

How often has it been on a Monday?

A new year?

A time in the future that you decide in your mind will make it convenient and doable enough.

(PRO TIP... there will never be the right time. If you want it enough, you'll make it happen)

And how often have you followed through with this for a lifestyle change and a new habit that you build?

This is not a knock on anyone who has done this. WE ALL HAVE.

The intention here is to offer an opportunity to shift this starting/stopping idea into a DOING idea.

Fitness, a movement practice, is not something to start and finish.

This would mean we must set better goals for ourselves. Rather than goals, set intentions. Goals are destinations, finish lines. Intentions are something we can continue to hold. There is nothing wrong with a goal, they are important and provide motivation along the way, but in terms of longevity... how do we make a practice something we do for a lifetime if the goals run out?

Let me give you a personal example of this entire idea.

I really love a clean house.

My entire being feels better when I walk into my house and it is clean.

There's plenty a good argument for why this is, we don't need to discuss all that right now...

The point here is... in my mind I always approach cleaning with this idea of ... if I clean it, it'll be clean!

This is where my own qualm and practice of reframing comes in...

The house will never stay clean.

My efforts of keeping it that way will NEVER end.

I can never start cleaning and then stop it and it stay that way.

Imagine if I can master this reframe what it may do to my own stress and bodily feelings when I walk into a dirty house to meet that with the ease of... let's DO this again.

You can take this idea into anything you want to be better at.

It's the idea of the forever student mindset.

If you can reframe your idea of fitness from being something you start and finish and begin to bring in this idea of something you DO... you'll be on your way to reaching all your goals and more as a byproduct of the process of the doing.

Come tomorrow, I will clean again, be in the gym again...

Hope to see you there.

Daniel Weaver

Born in Texas, Daniel began his Strength & Conditioning journey in high school where he found more joy in the actual training for sport than the sport itself. While pursuing a Sport & Exercise Science in college, he was blessed to become an intern at a local Strength & Conditioning gym that was also a CrossFit gym. It was there under the guidance of his first Mentor he began his coaching journey. This eventually led to taking over ownership of CrossFit Bothell in Bothell, WA in Jan of 2020. After 4 years of learning and growth, he is excited to start a brand new gym community in Bellingham, WA. Daniel believes in what a gym can do for humans. How it can become a place to receive coaching and feedback, to be vulnerable and struggle with others. He believes it's a place to learn, grow, and adapt in many more ways than simply improving ones body. He believes in a holistic approach to fitness.
