There Is No Starting or Stopping, Only Doing.

Let me give you a quick insight on something I am personally challenged by.

Cleaning house.

I love a clean house. When I walk into my home (aka apartment) and it is clean, my entire being feels good.

We could dive deep into why humans may feel good about a space that feels clean, but let's not get into that...

The idea here is... I hate cleaning. I do it to get it done with this non existent idea that it will then...be done. For good.

I start cleaning with an idea that I will finish it.

We all know how this story goes now... it never ends.

How many of us decide we are going to start something?

How often does it fall on a Monday? The New Year?

How often do we think to ourselves... I will start this during this time when the stars align.

The stars aligning could be... in a time and place where it feels doable. When we have the money, the time, the space. It could be when we feel better, don't have a certain nagging injury.. it could be when we feel fit enough.

Take anything you want to start, and you'll also find a good excuse not to when the DOING actually presents itself.

Goals are similar here. Goals are results. Destinations.

Rather than goals, what if we set intentions?

Intentions could be something we can realign ourselves to anytime we lose attention of our intention.

Intentions don't have to end.

Goals are great, they provide motivation and mini wins along the way, but goals are the byproduct of the process, and the process doesn't need a destination.

Essentially... goals will come, so long we are in the DOING. The intention.

The process.

I offer you this reframe.

With anything you want to do in life.

With anything that requires consistency and a process to get there...

it may evolve into more as you move along the path of getting there.

Think about it as a DOING rather than a starting and stopping.

Rather than an end point.

Fitness, or what we like to call it at Wildwoods... a movement practice... is not something we start.

It is something we do.

If we can approach it as such, we can make this thing part of a process we engage with for the rest of our lives.

It doesn't have to be something we struggle with.

It CAN be... something we do.

Imagine if I can master this reframe with this whole cleaning the house idea. What might it do for my stress levels and overall approach to cleaning if I thought of it as something I will DO vs something I want to do so it stays that way, and I don't ever have to do it again.

The house never stays clean, and fitness never ends.

Tomorrow I will clean again...

And.... I will see you in the gym.

Daniel Weaver

Born in Texas, Daniel began his Strength & Conditioning journey in high school where he found more joy in the actual training for sport than the sport itself. While pursuing a Sport & Exercise Science in college, he was blessed to become an intern at a local Strength & Conditioning gym that was also a CrossFit gym. It was there under the guidance of his first Mentor he began his coaching journey. This eventually led to taking over ownership of CrossFit Bothell in Bothell, WA in Jan of 2020. After 4 years of learning and growth, he is excited to start a brand new gym community in Bellingham, WA. Daniel believes in what a gym can do for humans. How it can become a place to receive coaching and feedback, to be vulnerable and struggle with others. He believes it's a place to learn, grow, and adapt in many more ways than simply improving ones body. He believes in a holistic approach to fitness.
