Summer solstice has various significant meanings throughout cultures, ancient times, and is still celebrated now... what could it mean for our health?
The longest day of the year
Our health is more than our bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and organs.
It is more than the way we function in movement in our hobbies, athletic pursuits, and in the gym...
More than the way our brain performs within our careers, relationships, and how we feel about the value we bring as a human.
It is more than the sleep we get, the diet we intake, and the amount of money we have.
Our health also has deep ties to rituals and spiritual practices.
Regardless of one's origin or beliefs, the idea of observing a day of significance to reflect on our current place on this planet could be beneficial.
Many cultures associate the summer solstice with awakening and renewal. People are inspired to check in with themselves, their goals and intentions, and work on creating action with the things they'd like to see happen in their lives.
It is also known as a time to represent abundance, expansion, and new beginnings. An emerging from the dark, both spiritually and physically.
With that said, here are a few ways to celebrate today.
This can be candles with meditation, yoga, journaling, sunbathing, sungazing at the sunrise or sunset, sauna, cold therapy, and some flow style movement/martial arts.
Celebrate with friends or family with a picnic and/or a bonfire. Find ways to get creative with what each of you are grateful for.
Getting still and quiet, reflecting and bringing in gratitude, can go a long way in how we feel in our day to day lives. A day like today is a great way to do so... if we so choose.
