An Argument for Group Training

July 15, 20242 min read

Why Group Training?

Last post we spoke about how we don't provide workouts. We provide a coaching experience instead. Today we are talking about another piece of that coaching/student relationship we build, and that is the community aspect to our gym.

Bellingham, Group training, classes, strength, conditioning

I'm not here to tell anyone any fitness is bad.

I am here to make an argument for group training and why we feel it is the answer for the general population.

In the pursuit of your best self, which is something you'd have to be bought into to begin with, we need a few things in that process.

One is feedback. Another set of eyes. Someone willing to help you explore your edges and weaknesses. The coach does that but so does the group.

The group can help keep us accountable. They help keep us motivated.

Knowing if you miss a week people will... care.

They will notice.

This isn't to intimidate you as much as it is to help you.

Imagine... you get a text from a friend from class asking where you are. Checking in...

You get back to class and a few people ask where you've been. They greet you with some smiles and fist bumps and you feel like you're surrounded by a group that cares about you showing up. They miss you.

Another key aspect here is not struggling alone.

Everyone in class and at the gym is doing the same workout, going through the same struggle.

Everyone is opting into doing something hard for the day...together.

Within the challenges of pushing yourself you can look over at the person next to you and see them going through it also and those thoughts of stopping dissipate.

When the going gets tough... the group keeps the individual moving.

Performance is nothing if it's not shared.

We find meaning in groups, in teams.

We are not a workout provider; we are a coaching experience AND you will share in that experience with others.

We all learn, grow, and adapt... together.

Daniel Weaver

Born in Texas, Daniel began his Strength & Conditioning journey in high school where he found more joy in the actual training for sport than the sport itself. While pursuing a Sport & Exercise Science in college, he was blessed to become an intern at a local Strength & Conditioning gym that was also a CrossFit gym. It was there under the guidance of his first Mentor he began his coaching journey. This eventually led to taking over ownership of CrossFit Bothell in Bothell, WA in Jan of 2020. After 4 years of learning and growth, he is excited to start a brand new gym community in Bellingham, WA. Daniel believes in what a gym can do for humans. How it can become a place to receive coaching and feedback, to be vulnerable and struggle with others. He believes it's a place to learn, grow, and adapt in many more ways than simply improving ones body. He believes in a holistic approach to fitness.
